Continuing Our Legacy Capital Campaign

Our Story

Over the years members of this congregation have contributed generously to maintain and upgrade our facilities as its needs have grown. We met in three different locations throughout town from 1812 until the present sanctuary was constructed in 1902.

The Lyon Building was constructed in 1912 to house the growing Sunday School program. In 1973 the Education Building added additional classrooms and office space for the pastor and staff. The narthex was added to the sanctuary in 1991, and our Fellowship Hall was completed in 2017.

People gave generously for all these projects, in addition to the many other updates: roofs, steeple repairs, new musical instruments, etc.

Methodists have been worshiping in Oxford for over two hundred years. Let’s ensure that we can continue doing so for another two centuries. It is our turn to continue the legacy of OUMC.

Our Goals

The Sanctuary

We will extend the chancel area to make it safer. We will also refinish the pews and space them at consistent distances, creating specific spots for wheelchairs. Meanwhile we will replace the carpet, brighten the lighting, update the sound system, and repaint the walls.

The Education Building

We will renovate the administrative offices, making one large workspace out of the three current rooms outside of the pastor’s study. It is also time for other updates throughout the building, including new energy-efficient windows.

Outdoors

We will add two brick signs, facing McClanahan and College Streets. We will also repaint exterior doors and the railings
on the breezeway, as well as updating shrubbery and outdoor lighting.

Our Campaign

Our fundraising goal is $550,000. We believe these updates will make our sanctuary more hospitable and our Education Building, including our Administrative Offices, more inviting and functional to those visiting our church.

We invite you to joyfully participate in making a financial commitment to the Continuing Our Legacy Capital Campaign. We are asking for three year pledges to complete these renovations (through May 2028). These gifts are in addition to the ongoing pledges and gifts that support the ministries of the church.

With your faithful commitments we can continue our legacy, together.
